UK contact lens wearers risk eye health

More than 2.8 million UK contact lens wearers risk their eye health

More than 2.8 million UK contact lens wearers have risked their eye health, according to new research.

Conducted by Optegra, the research looked into bad habits of UK contact lens wearers and discovered that 82% of lens wearers admit to dangerous risks. A total of 41% of users have worn them for longer than the recommended limit of up to 12 hours, 42% have showered with them in and almost a third have swam while wearing them.

Sundeep Vaswani, Eye Sciences clinical research associate at Optegra, said: ‘It is vital if you choose to wear contact lenses that you keep both the lenses and the case clean, using only the contact lens solution provided by your optician and nothing else. If you have any discomfort, redness, discharge, itchiness or irritation, you should remove the lenses and see your optician immediately.’
